Lucas Ryan Foundation

Lucas Ryan was your average eight year old until February 4th 2013 when he was diagnosed with High Risk Lymphoblastic T-cell Lymphoma. February 4th 2013 will be a date that Lucas will never forget. He has endured more pain in three years then most of us will know in a lifetime, but Lucas is a true WARRIOR, a Fighter, a Super Hero, he beat cancer with a smile that never left his face. There was no way cancer would win with him. He has been through three very long years of chemotherapy, steroids, and many LP’s (Lumbar Puncture) with chemo and very painful bone marrow aspirations.

Lucas has been there

Lucas has been there, he can relate to all the new comers. He had to watch some of his very close friends he made in the hospital loose their fight with cancer. At just 8 years old he was battling the battle of his life, something no child should go through. He also had to forever say goodbye to many friends he had made, but he promised them that when he’s old enough, he would make a change, so that no kid has to watch his friends die from cancer. Lucas lost all of his hair for more then a year, many times he felt embarrassed. He didn’t want to play with other kids because he felt as if they were all staring at him. It was a sure confirmation to the world that he had cancer. He was in and out of the hospital for three years. His father was the sole provider for his family, since his mother had to take care of him and couldn’t work at the time. During his treatment,he started writing his book “The Battle for Life”. In his imagination, he transformed all the painful and scary procedures he was going through and placed them in his fantasy world to help him understand and cope better with all the suffering. The result is a powerful saga that will affect everyone who reads it and, perhaps, offer much-needed hope and encouragement to others caught up in their war zone of affliction. His vision, commitment and dedication of how he can help other children in his situation gave life to “Lucas Ryan Foundation”.

Lucas Ryan Foundation

“Lucas Ryan Foundation” is a non-profit organization offering financial help for the families affected by pediatric cancer as well as grant wishes to children battling cancer and provides entertainment while they’re in the hospital. The foundation helps children cope with the isolation, boredom and fear associated with life-threatening illnesses. It is the goal of the foundation to be able to connect every child with their friends, family and school, enabling them to cope with the long hours, days and weeks of separation that they must endure. In creating a connection,we are in turn presenting the child with a form of diversion. This holds great importance for our seriously ill children. When a child is diagnosed with cancer, not only is the child’s entire life on hold, but so is his entire family. Parents are sometimes forced to quit their jobs in order to accommodate doctor’s visits, hospital admissions or late night emergency room runs while the amount of doctors’ bills and prescriptions accumulate from weeks, months and years. Lucas Ryan Foundation wants to help and assist the multiple needs within the treatment process such as: rent, mortgage, utility bills, cellphone payments as well as some of the high co-payments for chemotherapy, things that can help alleviate some of the stress associated with the bills during treatment. The Foundation wants to help the parents who are trying to fight for their child’s life and be at their bedside, especially those families who might only have few moments left together. Our Foundation purpose and vision is to bring a little comfort in this painful journey and no child or parent should have to face this alone. Lucas Ryan Foundation is a non-profit organization 501(C) (3).
